Robert C. Gillies
Robert C. Gillies earned his Postgraduate Certificate for Teachers of the Deaf from 1984-1985 Manchester University, Manchester, England in 1985, and his Bachelor of Arts, Honours, in American Studies from Manchester University, Machester, England, in 1980. He has taken several courses in audiology, speech and languague development, sociology and history of education, psychology of education, and child development. He also has served on a staff committee that developed the Developmental Reading Assessment for Deaf students, and the Curriculum Committee at the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf in Maine. Additionally, he has taught children- individually, and in groups- with speech and/or language difficulties, devising some individual programs and creating individual materials. Mr. Gillies has also taught language arts, math, and history to groups in both primary and secondary departments. In England, Mr. Gillies was involved in the development and application of the Language Through Reading scheme that was being developed at that time for children at the school with language and speech disorders.
